- Shannon Hennig
Shannon Hennig has her Masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders and is a certified speech-language therapist, both in New Zealand and the USA. Shannon has been working in hands-on roles within a wide range of educational spaces for over 20 years. She specialises in neurodiversity, language disorders, and assistive technology. Her doctoral research focuses on augmentative and alternative communication. She is particularly interested in how to support young people with minimal or very hard to understand speech. Shannon founded Inclusive Communication in 2014 which provides speech-language therapy services to the greater Wellington region and professional development webinars and workshops nationwide. She works closely with Ministry of Education, Oranga Tamariki, local mental health teams, and various non-profits. She is passionate to supporting our collective journey towards making learning spaces emotionally supportive, neurodiversity-affirming, and language rich for all students. She also does advocacy work in the sector in hopes that one day we might all have the supports we all need to make our inclusive education dreams a reality.
