Bio

I have been teaching for 25 years and have been a teaching principal for 17 of those years. My teaching experience ranges from Year 1 -4, but a significant amount of my time has been spent in the new entrants. I am now teaching in a Year 1 and 2 class. I am a passionate advocate for children, embrace a play based pedagogy, blended with dramatic inquiry and totally believe it is possible to weave a pedagogy based on play with a structured explicit approach. I started my blog Number Agents in October of 2016, since then I have created a facebook page, a facebook group and dabble in tiktok. I don't delete any blog posts from my journey so it stands as testament to my learning over time. Along the way I have become very passionate about the Science of Learning and how it might look in practice. In 2020 I started writing a scope and sequence for maths as I could not find anything I liked. I knew how much impact embarking on a similar journey in literacy had been a few years prior and wanted to replicate this for maths. I believe that if we are trauma aware, developmentally responsive and have a solid understanding of children as individuals, we can ensure all children experience success.

‘Weaving the Science of Learning Through a Play Based Pedagogy’.

October 10 @ 12:10 pm - 1:00 pm

This workshop will centre around my journey into the weaving of play pedagogy and structured, explicit teaching together. I aim to focus on how I ensure I am guided by the Science of Learning, while still honouring play pedagogy for my year one/two class. My intention is to give practical examples of how I teach all areas of literacy and maths through both a structured and playful lens.
