My Journey Supporting Neuro Diverse Tamariki in The Classroom

October 10 @ 1:50 pm - 2:40 pm

The needs of the tamariki coming into our classrooms are incredibly vast.  Even if you have been lucky enough to receive some funding it’s not full time for those tamariki that need that additional support.

Teachers are stretched, the system says “all children are entitled to an education”.  We know the system is broken.  It sets our children and our teachers up for failure, burnout and resentment.

What do we do?  How do we support the child having a meltdown, a child running around trying to get out of the school grounds, a child emotionally dysregulated, screaming, hitting, scratching, biting?

It seems bleak – at best!

Yes, I have (or have had) all of those situations in my classroom.

How did I cope?   Sometimes not well.

So this is me sharing my journey – ideas, techniques and solutions that put the heart of teaching  and the learner at the centre. These are solutions that have worked, and may work for you (and don’t worry you won’t need to spend time making lots of resources) but hopefully you will find hope .
