Learn Te Reo Through Song

October 10 @ 1:50 pm - 2:40 pm

In this workshop, get a taster of the more than 300 videos in Waiako.com.   Waiako.com is closely aligned to the Curriculum for te Reo Māori, virtual lessons led by a cartoon boy Kiri mean teachers can just press play to get started. The lessons are based around Wai Ako (Learning Songs) which get classes singing basic phrases. Teachers and students effortlessly learn pronunciation, phrase structure and vocabulary together and transition language learning into speaking every day. With clear progression and editable planning documents. Wai Ako was created by Roimata Smail, longtime learner of te Reo and human rights lawyer specialising for two decades in the Treaty of Waitangi. Wai Ako now draws on her experience to include NZ history and Treaty of Waitangi lessons (more added all the time). These also are virtual lessons so teachers can just press play and get started. Launched in 2017, Wai Ako is used by over twenty thousand children throughout Aotearoa.
