Supporting Social Connections With Students Who Find Playing With Peers, Group Work, And Interacting With Peers Tricky
October 10 @ 11:10 am - 12:00 pm
This workshop shares practical information to help build your confidence in understanding why social opportunities can add extra demands, pressure, and challenges to any activity for many neurodivergent students. While some students find social breaks to be a chance to recharge and group work to enhance learning, many neurodivergent students need us to carefully consider the complexities and challenges of socialising during the school day, both structured and unstructured times. We discuss how to support social development separately from other skill development, introduce ourselves into play to scaffold opportunities, and ensure that we are valuing neurodivergent ways of playing and connecting. The double empathy problem will be foundational to this webinar.
